It’s been a hot minute since we last heard from SaveMoney representative, Brian Fresco. After dropping his long-awaited Casanova project last year, Fresco took huge steps forward and has since been laying in wait while spending copious amounts of time in the studio. The result of that productive hiatus is his latest full-length, Love Scars which hit streaming platforms Wednesday, seemingly out of nowhere.

Fresco has long served as a sort of outlier for the SaveMoney crew, but his Mafioso tape in 2013 is the closest thing the collective has to a compilation release and he’s been quietly building a body of work that stretches across several soundscapes and motifs. Possessing the ability to seamlessly move from street anthems to rom-com rhymes, he’s currently poised as the one to emerge from the group in the coming months. With KAMI two (and a half?) projects in, Towkio taking off to space and the rest of the gang settling into a national profile, it seems Fresco is ready to join the team he’s grown up with under the bright lights. The squad makes appearances here, too. Vic Mensa hops on “Bow Wow Challenge” and KAMI joins him on “Grammy” while Chance makes an appearance on “Higher” which is a carry-over from previous releases. Either way, at first glance Fresco may have crafted one of the more memorable releases to drop from Chicago this year. Check it out above and as always on Mild Sauce Radio.
