There was no single other artist from Chicago to come up as hard or as quickly this summer than hometown product, Polo G who debuted his Die A Legend full-length to a very receptive public. Honestly, it was tough to go just about anywhere in the city without hearing “Pop Out” playing somewhere. A relative small name on the scene until the last few months, Polo is now part of a new wave emerging in a hurry.
That single pretty much sums up the rise. It did over 100 million plays so far and peaked at No. 11 on Billboard. Life has since been moving in a hurry for the Columbia signee and should only continue through the end of 2019 and beyond. Whereas Calboy, in a similar lane pulls from the lineage of drill aesthetics, Polo has a style that leans more towards a Valee feel, albeit without the expert word handling.
Dude definitely has a long way to go, but this summer he proved more than anyone that he has the ability to create a top single and these days, that’s at a premium. Dive in below and keep an eye out for plenty on the way.
