For as long as I’ve been doing my thing in Chicago there’s been a certain contingent that has consistently held me down and provided opportunities for countless creatives across the city. Together, Mike Kolar and Alex Fruchter have worked together to build the Closed Sessions imprint. While a collaborative endeavor, the recording side buoyed by Soundscape Studios has always been the masterful creation of the one and only Kolar. He and his squad celebrated hitting a decade of hot rap music and more with an in-depth documentary on the space, the team and how they got to the lofty heights of Chicago music that they currently occupy.
Everything aside, its awesome to see the guys getting the continued shine. Kolar has been a fixture of the area for what seems like forever and you’d be hard-pressed to find a better outfit that have been here supporting the scene for years now with no plans to stop any time soon. We could write pages about Mike, Alex, 99, Jabari and the creative team of artists, but we’ll let them do it through the never-ending lens of Yakub Films.
